Syco Entertainment has a new SVP. Simon Cowell’s joint venture with Sony Music said today it has handed the stripes to Tim van Rongen, who has worked on multiple countries’ versions of The Voice. He’ll join Syco in March and focus on broadening its business across the globe, seeking out new format commission opportunities and evolving established formats.
“I am delighted that Tim is joining us at Syco Entertainment,” Cowell said. “Our aim is always to attract world-class talent to the company — and that’s what Tim most certainly is.”
Van Rongen co-created the Starmaker format (aka Fame Academy and Star Academy) and was an on-air judge on the Dutch version of the show. In 2010, he joined Talpa Media Group as a Global Casting Director and soon after became an executive producer for The Voice and The Voice Kids, where he focused on the show in countries including the UK, China, Germany, France and Italy.
“With the rapidly changing media landscape, there are more creative opportunities than ever before,” van Rongen said, “and I am looking forward to working with Simon and the team on the development of fresh ideas that go hand-in-hand with today’s technology and resonate with a broad viewing audience. I can’t wait to bring more of the Syco flavor to entertainment platforms all over the world.”
