STX Entertainment has tapped James Loftus as SVP Business Development and Operations at STX Digital. He joins from Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). In his new role the former Yahoo and Google exec he will be responsible for strategizing and accelerating business initiatives, partnerships and growth in the digital arena.
The exec, who arrives with experience advising media companies on strategic planning, partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions, is the latest to join the ramping-up studio. The hire was announced by STX president Sophie Watts and STX Digital president Kathy Savitt; the later joined in September after serving as chief marketing officer and head of media at Yahoo. Loftus will split time between STX’s new Cupertino offices and L.A.
“James is a highly strategic business development executive as well as a true innovator on emerging trends and monetization models. I’m excited to partner with him to help drive our vision and successful execution of STX’s digital initiatives,” Savitt said.
Paul Allen-founded Vulcan Productions has hired former OWN EVP Programming and Development Rita Mullin as Senior Creative and Content Director. Vulcan produces feature films, TV programming, digital content and outreach initiatives designed to inspire people to take action on the critical issues. In her new role, Mullin, most recently EVP and GM of Science Channel, will report to Carole Tomko, who heads Vulcan Productions and Vulcan Philanthropy.
