Derek Wilson (Rectify) has been promoted to series regular on AMC’s upcoming drama series Preacher.

From Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, Preacher is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. The show centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. Wilson plays Donny Schenck, a Civil War re-enactor and abusive thug who gets into altercations with Jesse Custer (the Preacher). The decision to elevate the role to regular from recurring was made after the pilot was shot. Preacher is slated to premiere later this year.

Wilson recurs on Sundance Channel’s Rectify and appeared on Broadway in Macbeth.  He is repped by Gartner/Green, Innovative and attorney James Adams.

Totally awesome news. He should've been cast as the lead in at least 5 pilots last season.
