Fox has given an eight-episode order to Kicking & Screaming, a comedic competition series that teams 10 expert survivalists with pampered partners. It comes from executive producer Matt Kunitz (Wipeout, Fear Factor) and Lionsgate Television, where the veteran reality producer is under an overall deal.

Kicking & Screaming, which sounds like a cross between The Amazing Race and Running Wild With Bear Grylls, drops the 10 teams in a forbidding wilderness where they must overcome dangerous animals, raging rivers, hunger and extreme weather. To win the competition, the survivalist experts will have to drag their privileged partners — who think roughing it is going a week without a massage — kicking and screaming, to the finish line.

Fox has been stocking up on reality series for next season as the network faces the departure of American Idol, responsible for some 40 hours of primetime. The network also recently ordered a dating series from Mark Burnett.

Kicking & Screaming is created by Kunitz, David Shumsky and Mark Harris and executive produced by Kunitz and Anthony Dominici. Rebecca Shumsky Quinn developed the project and is a co-executive producer, along with Shumsky and Harris.
