Saturday Night Live standout Kate McKinnon and actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani have been set to co-host the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The 31st annual awards ceremony airs live on IFC on February 27 on the beach in Santa Monica.
The Emmy-nominated McKinnon is busy this season with her Hilary Clinton impression on SNL and is in the female Ghostbusters movie due out in July. Nanjiani is part of the ensemble cast of HBO’s hit Silicon Valley, Comedy Central’s The Meltdown With Jonah And Kumail, and he’s up next as star of The Big Sick, a film he co-wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon, produced by Judd Apatow and Barry Mendel and directed by Michael Showalter.
Last year, Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell co-hosted the ceremony to solid reviews. It’s one of the looser shows on the awards circuit, and the year before host Patton Oswalt was fantastically blue.
