Writers-producers Karyn Usher (Prison Break) and Lisa Zwerling (Betrayal) have signed an overall deal with Lionsgate TV. Under the pact, the duo will develop and produce original scripted programming through their new Carpool Entertainment banner.
Usher and Zwerling, who previously worked together on John Wells’ Presidio Med, reunited to form Carpool Entertainment to develop cable content and provide a platform for new voices.
Zwerling had a previous overall deal with ABC Studios, where she executive produced Betrayal and co-executive produced the Emmy-winning FlashForward. She also created and executive produced NBC’s Midnight Sun, starring Julia Stiles, and spent five seasons as a producer-writer-editor on NBC’s ER.
Usher, who recently concluded an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV, wrote for the acclaimed drama Prison Break. During the show’s four-season run on Fox, she went from co-producer to co-executive producer. Next, Usher joined the Emmy-nominated drama Bones, for which she wrote and co-executive produced for two seasons. Usher also created and executive produced Delirium and Rogue for Fox.
“Lisa and Karyn are remarkably talented writers and producers who bring a wealth of series television experience to Lionsgate,” said Chris Selak, Executive Vice President, Television, Lionsgate Television Group. “We are continually impressed with their artistic range and are thrilled about exploring new opportunities and creating new worlds together as we continue to broaden our Lionsgate TV brand.”
“We’ve gained a lot of valuable experience over the years, and are excited about the ever-evolving nature of television right now,” said Usher and Zwerling. “We wanted to find a new way to expand our capabilities, both in creating shows and helping other writers execute their visions. Lionsgate takes a unique approach in making great shows and finding the perfect home for them. We’re super lucky to be here.”
Zwerling and Usher are repped by WME.
