CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King will sit down with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama live from the White House during CBS Sports’ Super Bowl 50 pre-game show. The news was announced this morning at the TCA winter press tour. She’ll be talking with them about their final year at the White House and current affairs.
Traditionally the Super Bowl the CBS pre-show features an interview with the President of the United States. What’s news this year is the addition of Michelle Obama and with King asking the questions, the interview is apt to have more of a feature angle than political.
King exclaimed via satellite, “We’re very exited as this came through just last night… This White House opened their home as never before to the public.”
“Gayle knows how to drive conversations that are compelling and multi-dimensional so we get an even better understanding of the President, the First Couple and their plans for the future,” Chris Licht, vice president of programming for CBS News and EP of CBS This Morning, said in a statement.
While Michelle Obama has sat down for a number of live-to-tape interviews on late night and daytime TV, Licht added, “To the best of my knowledge, this has never been done with the first couple. Mrs. Obama generally doesn’t do live (news) interviews.”
