Entertainment One said today it has made a strategic equity investment in Sierra Pictures. The latter will continue to operate autonomously, and will use eOne’s global production and financing resources to support its production slate (including the in-production spy thriller The Coldest City starring Charlize Theron).

It’s the latest high-profile move by eOne, which last year teamed with The Mark Gordon Company to create a joint venture indie studio. The company of course is also one of the principals in Steven Spielberg’s new Amblin Partners, joining Participant Media and the Reliance Group in the venture just set up at Universal.

As part of the Sierra Pictures deal, the international sales and distribution of films produced and acquired by eOne Features, as well as eOne-distributed films from The Mark Gordon Company, will be handled by Sierra outside of Canada, the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Benelux and Spain, where eOne directly distributes.

Sierra/Affinity, the joint international sales venture between Sierra Pictures, OddLot Entertainment and Bold Films, will continue to operate as a third-party rep, including for its exclusive deals with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Blumhouse International, OddLot and Bold.
