At the HBO TCA party, HBO president Michael Lombardo provided an update on the long-gestating Deadwood movie. (In August, HBO confirmed “very preliminary discussions” with creator David Milch.) Lombardo was optimistic about the project’s prospects when talking to Deadline. He went further with our sister publication TV Line. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen,” he said.

Deadwood, which starred Ian McShane as merciless saloon owner Al Swearengen, ran for three seasons. At the time of the cancelation, HBO announced two Deadwood movies but nothing ever came of them.
