DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow has found its Jonah Hex. Johnathon Schaech will play the antihero in The CW’s drama in a guest-starring role with a possibility to recur.

Jonah Hex is a true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future but is at home in the Wild West. He’s been battling outlaws and gangs for a while now and advises the team to be extra careful when they arrive in the small town of Salvation. The character was played by Josh Brolin in the 2010 film adaptation Jonah Hex.

Although the character and his adventures are set in the Old West in the 1800s, recent years — particularly after DC’s New 52 reboot — have more expressly tied him to the universe’s modern continuity. For instance, one storyline saw Hex summoned to 1880s Gotham City by the founder of Arkham Asylum to assist in the capture of a serial killer.

The Jonah Hex character was introduced in 1972 in the All-Star Western comic book series. He was a Confederate soldier captured and then tortured by the Union Army during the Civil War. The character also is no stranger to time travel: In issue #92 of his eponymous series, he was abducted and transported into a postapocalyptic future.

Schaech joins Legends Of Tomorrow cast members Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Ciara Renée, Franz Drameh, Arthur Darvill and Falk Hentschel.

Schaech has recurred on Quantico, Texas Rising, Star-Crossed and Ray Donovan. His feature film credits include. Quarantine, Takers and That Thing You Do! He’s repped by APA, RMS Productions and Management and attorney Jason Handler.
