Cate Blanchett Lands Costume Designers Honor

Carol star and double Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will receive the Lacoste Spotlight Award at the 18th Costume Designers Guild Awards. The honor goes to an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. The guild noted her appreciation for the artistry of costume design and her collaboration with costume designers throughout her career.

cinderella-cate-blanchettBlanchett this year played evil stepmother Lady Tremaine in Disney’s lavish Cinderella, working closely with costume designer Sandy Powell and director Kenneth Branagh. She also was in the Rathergate pic Truth and is up next in Terrence Malick’s films Knight Of Cups and Voyage Of Time.

The CDG Awards are set for February 23 at the Beverly Hilton, where the guild is also honoring Quentin Tarantino as well as Ellen Mirojnick with a lifetime achievement award.

  1. Is there no end to these awards shows? And people wonder why the big awards show like the Oscars have such lower ratings than they used to. It’s because they’ve been cannibalized and diluted by the million other award shows. Has Cate Blanchett spent one day at home in the past few months? It’s been one awards show after another for her. Sick of the sight of her and I say that as someone who is a fan. Enough!

    1. “and I say that as someone who is a fan.”
Sure, sure. Cate Blanchett has been at events (AACTA, London Film Festival, and Palm Springs) where they have honored her career, to accept her award – like any other actor does. She was at Cannes earlier this year with the filmmakers and cast of Carol because the film premiered and was nominated – like every other actor does. Cate Blanchett has nothing to do with the number of awards or awards shows there are (and award shows haven’t even started). Clearly you just dislike her.
