Mark O’Brien (Halt & Catch Fire) and Enzo Cilenti (The Martian) have joined the cast of The Last Tycoon, Amazon Studios’ drama pilot based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel. Written and directed by Billy Ray, The Last Tycoon was inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, on whom the book’s protagonist Monroe Stahr was based. O’Brien will play the series regular role of Max Miner, a displaced down-and-outer who’s livid at his misfortune. Although homeless, Miner takes care of his younger siblings, 14-year-old Darla and 8-year-old Nathan, with whom he ekes out a precarious existence in the Hooverville next door to the Brady-American Studio. Cilenti will play Aubrey Hackett, a writer at Brady-American studios under Monroe. He’s an intellect, a born protestor who wants to unionize the other Hollywood workers. O’Brien is repped by Don Buchwald & Associates, The Characters Talent Agency & Thruline Entertainment. Cilenti is repped by APA and 42.
Newcomer Kalia Prescott has been cast as a series regular opposite Megan Neuringer in NBC’s Imaginary Friend pilot, one of the winners of this year’s NBC Playground Competition. The comedy, produced by Hazy Mills and written by Kassia Miller, centers on an intelligent yet unmotivated woman (Neuringer) who discovers a special and unexpected way of dealing with her mediocre life. Prescott will play Mable, an attractive “ultra-cool, couldn’t give a shit” intern at Wendy’s company. Prescott, repped by Innovative Artists and Thruline Entertainment, recently appeared on FX’s You’re The Worst.
