We’re hitting the holiday season stride with old faves, event shows and encores, and Tuesday had them all. The big event was the second annual crossover of The Flash (1.4/5) and Arrow on The CW. Last night’s episode “Legends Of Today” kicked off the two-nighter with the Scarlet Speedster reaching out to Star City’s archer and beginning the introduction of some of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.
Although even with last week’s show, Flash lost some of its footing compared to the inaugural December 2, 2014 crossover with a 12% drop in adults 18-49. Still, the WBTV-produced series jumped ahead of both Fox’s Grandfathered (0.9/3) and The Grinder (0.7/2), which were even with their November 24 episodes, as well as season-low-hitting The Muppets (1.1/4) and Fresh Off The Boat (1.2/4), down 8% and 14%, respectively from their last originals of November 17; as a result, ABC to come a rare third in the 8 PM time slot.
For last year’s crossover, The Flash was fourth in the slot, only besting a NCIS repeat. Flash lead-out iZombie (0.6/2) actually had a better night in the key demo, rising a tenth from its last original two weeks ago.
Also up was NBC’s freshman Chicago Med (2.0/7), coming off a double-digit-rising The Voice (2.6/8). While rising 11% in adults 18-49 from last week, the real achievement of Dick Wolf’s newest Windy City franchise has to be that last night’s show beat the 8.638 million viewership of its highly promoted November 17 premiere, with 9. 765 million watching this week.
With eliminations, The Voice rose 24% among 18-49s as it faced CBS’ annual Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (2.3/7) airing. The Voice was the top-rated and most-watched show of the night, while the veteran special of Santa’s shiny friend was down 17% from its December 9 showing last year. Chicago Fire (1.9/6) was also up Tuesday with a 6% demo bop – all of which gave NBC a solid win for the night with a 2.2/7 rating and a total audience of 10.08 million.
The rest of CBS’ Tuesday saw repeats of Limitless (1.1/3) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.9/3). Fox ended its Tuesday with Scream Queens (0.9/3), which was up 12% over last week. ABC closed out the original programming portion of its night with the penultimate 2015 episode of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1.3/4), which was even with its November 17 episode.
