DMG Entertainment, Studiocanal and James Cameron are partnering to produce a special 3D conversion re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The plan is to go out worldwide next summer, with China a specific target. The 1991 film was never released theatrically in the Middle Kingdom but has had a popular life on DVD.
T2 won four Oscars and grossed $520M worldwide. But Cameron says, “If you’ve never seen it, this’ll be the version you want to see and remember.”
DMG and Studiocanal will work with the director to supervise and produce the digitally remastered 3D conversion. The film, which celebrates its 25th anniversary next year, is part of Studiocanal’s 5,000+ movie catalogue. Over the past 15 years, the first two installments of the franchise have grossed more than $10M in licensing and royalties.
Cameron’s Titanic was previously remastered in 3D and grossed $343M during its 2012 re-release.
