Star Wars The Force Awakens Apocalypse Now HomageUPDATE, 9:22 AM: Tuesday’s final numbers are in, and Disney confirms that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has crossed $300M domestically in record time. The Force Awakens pulled in $37.3M yesterday, which represents 15% of the weekend tally. That also beats the previous Tuesday record posted by The Amazing Spider-Man ($35M) by 7%. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has grossed $325.4M at the domestic box office so far.

PREVIOUS, 5:51 AM: According to early industry estimates this morning, Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens crossed the $300M threshold yesterday at the domestic box office faster than any other film ever. Jurassic World completed this feat in eight days, and Force Awakens outstrips that record in five days. Disney has yet to make this news official.

Also this morning, rival box office analysts see The Force Awakens notching the best Tuesday ever with a projected $37.88M, which means that Episode VII beat another Sony Spider-Man title two days in a row after taking the Monday record away from Spider-Man 2 with $40.1M. The previous Tuesday champ was Sony’s reboot The Amazing Spider-Man which made $35M on July 3, 2012.

Even if Force Awakens falls short of this early morning estimate after actuals are announced, it will still own the $300M title: The cume for the J.J. Abrams film stood at $288M through Monday, so it only needed to make another $12M on Tuesday to steal the record away from Universal’s dinos.

To date, Force Awakens’ U.S./Canada tally stands at $325.9M.
