Sofia Boutella, soon to appear in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is possibly set to play villain in the lynchpin of Universal’s planned Monsters franchise of films. She’s in talks with the studio to play the mummy in the film of the same name, potentially opposite Tom Cruise who despite earlier denials is, so we’re hearing, currently in talks to appear in the film in an unspecified role.
The film would kick off a reboot of the so-called Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. The franchise would see the studio’s collection of classic horror and thriller movie creatures, including Dracula, the Creature From The Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein’s Monster featured in stand alone and crossover films. Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan and overseeing the narrative for the franchise.
Exclusive: Tony-nominated actor Stephen Kunken has signed on to the cast of the still-untitled next installment of the Jason Bourne series. Reuniting The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass and franchise star Matt Damon, the film updates the series’ themes, and has been described as drawing influence from the Edward Snowden controversy. Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Julia Stiles and Ato Essandoh.
Greengrass is writing the script with Christopher Rouse, while Frank Marshall and Jeffrey Weiner will produce for for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith are also producing, with Rouse and Henry Morrison executive producing.
Kunken recently wrapped work on the still-untitled film coming this summer from Woody Allen. He was recently seen in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, as well as Still Alice and The Wolf of Wall Street. He also has recurring roles on the upcoming Showtime series Billions, and on The Affair. He’s repped by Liebman Entertainment and Innovative Artists.
