Musician Scott Weiland, former lead singer of the popular 90s alternative band Stone Temple Pilots and later of the supergroup Velvet Revolver, has died at age 48. The singer was on tour with his band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, and scheduled to perform in Minneapolis tonight. According to reports, he was found unresponsive in the back of his tour bus by his personal manager.

Weiland’s wife and manager both confirmed the news to media shortly after word spread. Soon after, an official statement was made on Weiland’s Instagram:

The news became public after Weiland’s friend, guitarist and Ink Master host Dave Navarro tweeted his condolences. The tweet has since been deleted, though Navarro continues to share his condolences in response to tweets from his followers.

Weiland long struggled with substance abuse, but the cause of death has not been made public at this time.
