YouthOscar winning director Paolo Sorrentino’s lilting rumination on aging – and other things – begins its theatrical run through distributor Fox Searchlight today in LA and NY exclusive engagements. The film, which was first seen as part of the main competition at this year’s Cannes Film youthFestival in May, has won acclaim for its performances from a cast including Michael Caine , Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano, Rachel Weisz and Jane Fonda. Fonda shows up for maybe 8 and 1/2 minutes tops but steals the movie in a riveting performance. Caine, who has won two Academy Awards for Supporting Actor, could find himself in contention for Lead Actor again for his reflective and moving turn as a retired musical conductor and composer. This film represents the Italian-born Sorrentino’s first film since winning the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar two years ago for The Great Beauty. It is his second English Language film and one well worth checking out.  Watch this featurette on Sorrentino and see how he was able to attract a top notch cast like this.  Just click on the link above.
