EXCLUSIVE: Scribe Matthew Aldrich has been tapped to pen the adaptation of Opening Belle, the potential Reese Witherspoon-starrer at Warner Bros. The pic is based on Maureen Sherry’s upcoming novel about a mother of three trying to balance home life with her Wall Street career during the year before the financial meltdown. Witherspoon and her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea are set to produce.
Chantal Nong and Julia Spiro are overseeing the project for Warner Bros. Director of development Jeanne Snow is overseeing for Pacific Standard.
Aldrich had Black List scripts in back-to-back years with The Ballad Of Pablo Escobar and before that Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery And Eskimo Kisses. Warner Bros acquired that spec too in a heated 2011 auction and had Matt Damon circling to star in and direct the story of a man who goes on the lam with his daughter, his accomplice, on a three-state crime spree.
Aldrich is repped by WME and manager Jewerl Ross.
