Actor Morgan Freeman and his pilot are OK after their private jet was forced to make an “unscheduled” landing Saturday in the Mississippi town of Tunica, Fox 13 News in nearby Memphis, TN reported. Freeman was on a trip for a National Geographic photo shoot.
Freeman later released a statement that he was en route to Texas to shoot a segment for the TV series The Story Of God. A tire blew out on takeoff from Clarksdale, MS, Freeman’s statement said, which caused other problems. He said they landed “without a scratch” at an airport in Tunica, 36 miles away, but that he couldn’t say the same for the plane which ran off the end of the runway into a field.
Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett, a longtime friend of Freeman who is also his attorney, said the flight originated in that town and that another plane was on its way to Tunica to pick up Freeman and continue to Texas.
