EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Headline has acquired the publishing rights to Brit author-filmmaker Adam Hamdy’s Pendulum. Hannah Sheppard at the DHH Literary Agency negotiated the deal after the book generated much interest following its introduction at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Pendulum is a twisting, dangerous journey through a digital underworld. The high-concept thriller sees everyman John Wallace targeted for death by a serial killer. When a quirk of fate allows him to escape, Wallace goes on the hunt determined to find the answer for why someone wants him to die.

Film and TV rights are being handled by leading UK agency Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and there is already believed to be plenty of interest in the property.

Headline will publish the first formats of Pendulum in late 2016 with a paperback in early 2017, and publish the further installments of the franchise on a yearly basis thereafter. Headline’s publishing director for fiction Victoria Mellor negotiated a three-book deal for world rights. Translation rights are controlled by Headline.

Hamdy has adapted a number of comic books and novels for the screen, including the forthcoming film version of David Mitchell’s novel, Number9Dream, which Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna) is attached to direct for Film4.
