Golden Globes Embarrassingly Confuse Gina Rodriguez With America Ferrera

This morning’s Golden Globe nominations were full of snubs and surprises – especially for America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez. The Superstore actress was on hand early as one of the announcers of the noms, but online it seems the Jane The Virgin star was the one onstage at the Beverly Hilton.

Besides the obvious embarrassment, what makes matters worse is that both of the Latina actresses are past winners of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig. Ferrera won for Ugly Betty back in 2007, and Rodriguez took the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical prize earlier this year. This morning, Rodriguez was nominated in the category again. She faces Lily Tomlin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jamie Lee Curtis and fellow CW-er Rachel Bloom.

The HFPA quickly fixed their faux pas and deleted its previous tweet. “What occurred this morning was an unfortunate error,” said the organization in a statement Thursday. “Our sincerest apologies to America and Gina.” That’s an understatement.

In a classy move, Rodriguez simply ignored the slight – at least online.

  1. When Trump is president, he’ll build a wall around the Hollywood Foreign Press and he’ll make the Hollywood Foreign Press to pay for it.

    1. Well… it’d say Robin Wright and Michelle Pfieffer perhaps. They at least look alike with their slim build, striking eyes and blond hair. A stupid mix up, but you can’t deny these two young ladies look alike with their hairstyles and makeup.

  2. A ‘snub’ for Straight Outta Compton? Why, because every black film is award worthy? Get over it. At best, the film is below average. Can we just stop the whining.

Congrats to all of the nominees…. 😘

  3. I may confuse them too. They do look-a-like. I still confuse Amy Adams and Isla Fisher sometimes. Not to mention some people still cant tell apart Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard.

For some time I thought that Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland, Under the Dome) and Danielle Panabaker (Flash) was the same actress. And its not because I hate white people. But because they do look-a-like.

  4. Ahahah! Highly entertaining for anyone who’s worked with America on Ugly Betty, and know Gina as her stand in!
