Mary Rae Thewlis will receive the DGA’s 2016 Frank Capra Achievement Award and Tom McDermott the Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award at the guild’s 68th annual DGA Awards set for February 6 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

Thewlis, now a National Board member, will get the Capra award given to an Assistant Director or Unit Production Manager in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to guild. Her credits include FX’s The Americans and long runs on Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She is also a Trustee of the DGA Pension and Health Plan, the DGA Training Plan and the DGA Foundation.

McDermott’s honor recognizes an Associate Director or Stage Manager in recognition of service to the industry and the guild. He currently chairs the DGA’s Western AD/SM/PA Council after first joining the group more than three decades ago. His credits include Nightly News With Tom Brokaw, Today, Late Show With David Letterman and several Super Bowls, Olympics and NBA Finals in addition to his gig as full-time Stage Manager for The Young And The Restless.

DGA Award nominations are set to be announced January 12-13.
