One of the most charming and downright funny animated films of the last few years, Shaun The Sheep Movie, became a subject for discussion as part of the Lionsgate presentation at Deadline’s big , all day awards season event , The Contenders Presented By Deadline that was held at the DGA last month in front of a sold out industry crowd of AMPAS and top guild members. Writer/Director Richard Starzak talked about the challenges of taking such well known characters not only from the Wallace & Gromit movies but also their own international TV series. He also discusses the magic of using Stop Motion animation for creating the ultimate real effect. Producer Paul Kewley notes he was “terrified” about turning this property into a feature since there is no dialogue , a factor making it difficult to sell. In the end it all worked out beautifully for the movie that has now been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Annies and looking to follow that up at many other awards shows to come.
