Principal photography started this week in London on Denial, the Mick Jackson-directed adaptation of Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book, History On Trial: My Day In Court With A Holocaust Denier. Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall star and have now been joined by Spectre and Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott.
David Hare did the adaptation of the book which recounts Lipstadt’s legal battle for historical truth against David Irving, who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust Denier. In the English legal system, the burden of proof is on the accused; therefore, it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust happened. Scott joins the cast in the role of solicitor Antony Julius.
Also in the pic are Caren Pistorius (Slow West), Jack Lowden (War And Peace), Alex Jennings (The Lady In The Van) and Harriet Walter (Suite Francaise).
Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff are producers with Shoebox Films. Shoebox’s Guy Heeley and Paul Webster are exec producers, along with Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King. Participant developed and financed the project with BBC Films whose Christine Langan and Joe Oppenheimer are also exec producing. Bleecker Street recently acquired North American rights.

Another day, another holocaust movie. Nobody respects a professional victim.
Please stop using a horrible tragedy to
make money. Please stop making holocaust
films. It’s sickening.
Dont you know that Schindlers list has brought up the ability for the survivors to speak out. People learn from this movie. The movie is still used to teach students about tthe holocaust. Spielberg used the prodit to create the Shoah foundation and record survivor stories.
Speilberg is in his own class.Don’t you know he is a world icon. Prolific reknowned and blessed.
That’s the more pessimistic take – a more optimistic take would be that they just want people to understand history.
Look, if there’s no Holocaust movie for the academy awards then you’re left with exposes of the Catholic Church. Must feed the beast.
I agree Rachel Weisz can’t get anyone to see anything she is in
She should do small supporting roles in better movies
