Fox has put in development The Diplomats, a drama project from Royal Pains co-creator/executive producer/co-showrunner Andrew Lenchewski and producer Will Packer (Ride Along, Straight Outta Compton).

Created and written by Lenchewski, The Diplomats — like Royal Pains — has a buddy element at the center. It revolves around two female State Department agents who are assigned to work together on a major diplomatic crisis, but the fate of the world might rest on whether these women can get along with each other.

Under Packer’s overall deal at Universal TV, his Will Packer Prods is shepherding two series: Truth Be Told at NBC and the upcoming Uncle Buck at ABC. Packer’s development slate also includes comedy Bonita & Mechelle, with Eva Longoria producing, and drama Buckhead, both at NBC. Outside of the deal, Packer is executive producing a TV comedy series adaptation of his Think Like A Man movie franchise at Fox.

Lenchewski is reped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Packer is repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
