EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Jo Bamford’s and Piers Tempest’s Tempo Productions have optioned Sarah J Maas’s YA fantasy book A Court Of Thorns And Roses. Maas’s book follows 19-year-old huntress Feyre, who kills a wolf in the woods, only for a beast-like creature to arrive and demand retribution for it.
Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin, one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it or doom Tamlin and his world forever.
Maas is repped by CAA and Tamar Rydzinski at the Laura Dail Literary Agency. Charles Moore at Wiggin LLC acts for Tempo.
Tempo recently wrapped filming on Nick Hamm’s The Journey, a fictional account of the extraordinary story of two implacable enemies in Northern Ireland — firebrand Democratic Unionist Party leader Paisley and Republican stalwart McGuinness— who are forced to take a short journey together in which they will take the biggest leap of faith and change the course of modern history. It is at this moment the two sworn enemies put their past actions behind them and begin to forge a friendship that would lead to them being known as “The Chuckle Brothers.” Colin Bateman (Divorcing Jack) is writing the script with Hamm (Killing Bono) directing. Hamm, Mark Huffam (The Martian) and Piers Tempest (Like Minds) are producing. Stuart Ford’s IM Global is fully financing through its Acclaim specialty division with assistance from Northern Ireland Screen and will handle world sales.
