Damato began her career working alongside Jim Cameron at Lightstorm Entertainment where she worked on True Lies, Strange Days, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. She then moved to
Brillstein-Grey Entertainment as VP of the Motion Picture department, followed by a four-year stint working with Al Pacino at CHAL Entertainment where she was involved with such titles as The Insider, Any Given Sunday, and Insomnia. Damato also executive produced Chinese Coffee, a film that Pacino starred and also directed.
