A teaser trailer for Fox’s upcoming thriller series Second Chance dropped a couple of weeks back, and it utterly failed to give you the most important information about the basic premise. Fox has wisely given itself another opportunity, with a brand new trailer that makes it much more clear. In short, this thing is going to be The Six Million Dollar Man meets A Christmas Carol but with The Shield as its backstory. Sold, Fox. Sold.
Second Chance follows Jimmy Pritchard, who begins the series as a 75-year old former LA county sheriff whose career was destroyed after his corruption and dirty dealings came to light. A lifetime of hard living and familial neglect has left him isolated and estranged from his children in his old age, but when he’s murdered after stumbling on robbery at the home of one his children, he’s miraculously brought back to life thanks to the efforts of a pair of tech billionaires. Now himself younger and gifted with superhuman abilities, he must decide what to do with his second chance at life.
Along with the trailer, Fox has also released a new poster, which you can see below. Meanwhile, Rob Kazinsky (True Blood) stars as the younger Pritchard, with Tim DeKay (White Collar) as his son, and Dilshad Vadsaria and Adhir Kalyan as the people who brought him back to life. Philip Baker Hall (Magnolia) guests as the elderly Pritchard. Second Chance premieres January 13 on Fox.
It’s worth noting again that this is Fox’s second series called Second Chance that features an older man given the chance to fix his life’s mistakes. The first starring Matthew Perry, aired in 1987 and 1988 and involved divine intervention and Time Travel. And was a sitcom. Fox was weirdly awesome when it was young.
