We’re still more than a month away from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Sure, pretty much everyone watched the final trailer released two weeks ago, but just in case you’ve forgotten about Star Wars since then, Disney and Lucasfilm have released some new character posters into the wild.
The posters are linked by the theme of the right eye being covered by something, though the symbolism, if any is intended, escapes me. It could just be more of JJ Abrams’ “mystery box” obscurity. It’s probably just an aesthetic choice building on the official one sheet, which used Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber and hood, Rey’s bo staff, and Finn’s (or according to rumor, Luke’s) lightsaber to create an X at the top of the poster.
Whatever the point, these things look cool. Particularly Han holding up that blaster, and of course, seeing more of Carrie Fisher as a very commanding Princess Leia is itself worth the clickbait. I’m more interested in the conspicuous absence of Luke Skywalker, however; aside from some leaked images of Mark Hamill sporting a magnificent beard and dressed in Obi-Wan-style robes, nothing Luke-related has made its way public. Even the hugely detailed — and, based on the trailers, apparently very accurate — spoiler-rumors about the film are rather vague on just what Luke’s role will be. I’m actually impressed by the discipline it has to take to keep whatever it is from leaking, even if I’m increasingly impatient to see something of the last Jedi before The Force Awakens comes out.
In other words, feel free to speculate wildly in comments. Meanwhile, here are the posters. Enjoy, and may the Force be with you.
