EXCLUSIVE: Lakeshore Entertainment and David S. Goyer’s Phantom Four banner are teaming to produce the feature project Miles. Oliver Daly writes and directs based on his original short which stirred an auction when it came up for acquisition earlier this year. As Deadline exclusively revealed back in February, Goyer won out in an extremely competitive situation. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will produce alongside Phantom Four’s Goyer and Kevin Turen. Principal photography will begin in first-quarter 2016.
“Oliver is one of the most impressive up-and-coming filmmakers I’ve ever met. I’m so pleased that Lakeshore has embraced him and the project with the same enthusiasm we have,” said Goyer.
Daly started his career as a 3D animator in the biotech world. His interest in the Inland Empire off-roading culture provided a landscape for him to bring animation into the real world. Miles is a contemporary nod to Steven Spielberg’s classic E.T. about blurring the boundaries of humanity and technology, set in California’s teenage off-roading motocross world.
Daly, Goyer and Turen are repped by WME. Executive Elizabeth Gesas brought the project into Lakeshore. The Lakeshore and Phantom Four deal was negotiated by John LaViolette.
Here’s the short that brought Daly to people’s attention.
