Joel Silver (The Matrix, Lethal Weapon) has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Lionsgate TV for his Silver Pictures Television. The two companies sold their first project together earlier this fall — period vampire drama Bathory at CBS from writer/executive producer David Eick — whose commitment is now a put pilot. Additionally, Silver Pictures TV and Lionsgate TV have landed a second put pilot commitment from Fox for drama Soar, with former Smallville executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer writing and executive producing. It follows a former NBA prodigy turned felon, who once released from prison, is recruited as the head basketball coach at an upscale high school.
Silver executive produces both projects with longtime Fox 2000 executive Rodney Ferrell who has been tapped as president of Silver Pictures TV and will oversee the company’s development. Set in 1600s Budapest, Bathory is a radical take on vampire mythology following history’s first known female serial killer, Elizabeth Bathory.
“Joel has created some of the biggest franchises of all time and established an incredible network of relationships with top writers and other world-class creative talent,” said Lionsgate TV Group Chairman Kevin Beggs.
Silver’s TV series credits include Tales from the Crypt, Moonlight, Veronica Mars and Action. Slavkin and Swimmer’s series credits also include Defiance and Dominion.
