Avengers assemble! Because we might finally be getting a trailer for Captain America: Civil War. That’s the obvious conclusion anyway, as Jimmy Kimmel took to twitter a few minutes ago to announce (again) that Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) will be appearing on tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Live for a “big” surprise.

What’s the surprise? Well, it could be a quiz game and tiny snippet of footage like the most recent Marvel-themed Kimmel episode. But come on. This year’s holiday season is going to be dominated by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it makes sense that Disney wants to leverage all its corporate synergistic might to promote other popular inbound franchise films alongside the return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Heck, they did it last night when J.J. Abrams and the cast of TFA showed up. Which is to say, fine Kimmel, you win. I’m watching tonight, along with (probably) everyone else.

If it seems weird that tonight’s appearance – first announced at the end of last night’s very Star Wars episode – was revealed practically last minute, it shouldn’t. About this time last year, Marvel had planned to debut a big The Avengers: Age of Ultron clip during a broadcast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., only to see the footage leaked nearly a week early. It would make sense to keep this as secret as possible to prevent that from happening again.

Get ready, though: With 2015 now entering its death spiral and the numerous tentpole superhero films of 2016 very close on the horizon, we’re probably about to enter a trailer explosion. I expect we’ll see WB follow with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice news any day now.
