Mahershala Ali, who plays the suave lobbyist Remy Danton, Kevin Spacey’s sometime partner in political mayhem, on the Netflix series House Of Cards, will co-star with Joshua Jackson (Showtime’s The Affair), Anne Son (ABC’s My Generation) and Tess Thomson (Selma) in the new play by Stick Fly dramatist Lydia R. Diamond at off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre.

Set on the eve of Barack Obama’s first election to the Presidency, Smart People is a dramedy that follows four Harvard intellectuals entangled in a complex web of social and sexual politics. The play will be staged by The Wiz Live! director Kenny Leon, who also staged Stick Fly and the ambitious Tupac Shakur musical Holler If Ya Hear Me. The show is set to begin performances on January 26, 2016 at the company’s West 43rd Street theater, with opening night on February 11.
