Harold & Kumar star Kal Penn is reuniting with the writers of the hit feature franchise, Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, for Fair And Balanced, a single-camera comedy, which has been set up at ABC.
Written by Schlossberg and Hur
witz, Fair And Balanced, from Lionsgate TV, revolves around an aspiring NPR reporter who is swayed to work at a Fox News-type channel. (Fox News has been using “Fair and Balanced” as its slogan.)
The project will be informed by some of Penn’s real-life experiences appearing on various news shows as well as serving as correspondent for Vice News and spending two years in Washington as an associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and a member of President Obama’s National Arts Policy Committee.
Penn will executive produce Fair And Balanced alongside his longtime manager and producing partner Dan Spilo of Industry Entertainment. Hurwitz and Schlossberg also will executive produce through their Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions, with Matt Lottman, their Director of Development, as co-producer.
House alum Penn recently signed on as host of Fox’s competition special Superhuman and joined the cast of Hulu’s Deadbeat for its upcoming third season. He is next up on the big screen in William H. Macy’s The Layover and an untitled Cullen Brothers film alongside Bruce Willis and John Goodman.
Schlossberg and Hurwitz also wrote and directed the 2012 American Pie movie American Reunion.

Gee… i wonder how “fair and balanced” this show will be.
Wonder away, as if it even remotely matters. It’s a comedy, not a news network.
“It’s a comedy, not a news network“…
Just how loosely defined in the word, “comedy“?
Bill Maher is supposedly a comedian, he sure fooled me…
Same for Colbert…
Frankly it would be better for the comedy comedy if the show were an equal-opportunity skewerer.
South Park takes aim at everyone.
Protecting “my precious” from being the butt of jokes is as bad for comedy as protecting “my precious” from critique is for journalism.
But then, you’d really have to be fair & balanced to understand that. Believing that good comedy is exempt from candor, or that it flourishes in an atmosphere of self-protection, is quite telling.
Oh, Ben. What I wonder is if you understand how satire works?
Hopefully just as fair and balanced as Fox News, which is to say not at all.
I am pretty sure they are creaming their pants with anticipation that this will be a great show!!! And you wonder why people are cutting the cord to cable.
I’m not “creaming my pants”, but I’ll be reading this pilot soon.
Cutting the cord?
ABC is over the air
This is a show on ABC. Your point is moot.
Ha ha ha! Hee hee hee!
So brave, so truthy! Hollywood leftists gonna left!
Give these people the Walter Duranty Award!
^Precisely why conservatives are so unfunny.
Upwards arrows trigger me! #StopMatt2016
Good for him, but I can’t believe he’s still with DS.
Oh, sweet. “The Newsroom” is coming back, but this time it will be intentionally funny.
Woo hoo. FOX News and company and their right wing nut viewers don’t understand satire or have a sense of humor unless the subject is Obama, Hillary Clinton, blacks, Hispanics or gays. Maybe ABC should just cut right to the chase and call this sitcom, Unfair and Imbalanced.
And you guys don’t understand satire unless it’s directed at white middle class people.
It’s funny because all non-leftists are racist, you see? Tee hee I’m holding my sides cause that’s so funny…and…and…original…hoo boy!
FOX using “Fair and Balanced” is positively Orwellian. This show could be a hoot so long as they nail the rightwing ethos perfectly. I look forward to watching every FOX acolyte’s head explode.
Great timing, satisfies a need once filled by The Colbert Report.
