Dixon Q. Dern has renewed for his 40th year as outside general counsel to the Television Academy. He has provided counsel on all of the Academy’s legal matters and business negotiations during his decades of service with the organization.
Dern, a practicing California lawyer since 1954, has been instrumental in the oversight of the TV Academy’s license agreements for the Primetime Emmy telecast, as well as the establishment of both the Hall of Fame and the Television Academy Honors. He also has handled legal matters for the Television Academy Foundation including its educational outreach programs and its Archive of American Television’s historic preservation program.
He has also spearheaded trademark and copyright protection for the Academy, its Foundation and their many initiatives. In 2009, Dern was recognized with the Television Academy’s Syd Cassyd Founders Award for his many years of service to the organization.
