Yorgos Lanthimos’ Cannes pic The Lobster clawed its way to the top of the nominations for this year’s Moët British Independent Film Awards. The drama picked up seven nods including for Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Producer of the Year. Colin Farrell is nominated as Best Actor and Olivia Colman and Ben Whishaw are up for their supporting turns. Also riding the top of the nominees lists is 45 Years, Andrew Haigh’s Berlin premiere which has six nominations, including Best Film and for leads Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay. Another lead duo, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard received mentions for Macbeth which likewise is up for Best Film. Also notable, Asif Kapadia’s Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy, has five nominations including Best Film and Alex Garland’s Ex Machina rounds out that category. Carol, Room, Son Of Saul and Force Majeure all figure in the Best International Indie race. (See the full list of nominees below)

In the acting categories, the ladies of Suffragette — Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne-Marie Duff — are all nominated; Alicia Vikander is nominated for Best Actress for The Danish Girl and Tom Hardy is nominated as Best Actor for his performance as both Kray twins in Legend. Fun note, father and son Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson are both nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Suffragette and Brooklyn, respectively.

The BIFAs are held on December 6 at London’s Old Billingsgate.
