It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop and now the gang is back, but with some pretty major changes. First off, we have a new title. The third installment (fka Barbershop 3) is titled Barbershop: The Next Cut.
Calvin (Ice Cube) and his longtime crew, including Eddie (Cedric The Entertainer) are still there, but the once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. They also have a couple of new employees — Common (Selma) and Nicki Minaj (The Other Woman). Despite the good times and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and crew to come together to not only save the shop, but their Chicago neighborhood.
Barbershop: The Next Cut also stars Regina Hall (Think Like a Man), Sean Patrick Thomas (Barbershop), Eve (Whip It), Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Jaszmine Lewis (Barbershop), and JB Smoove (The Millers).
Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday) directs from a screenplay by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Tracy Oliver (The Neighbors), based on characters created by Mark Brown. Barbershop: The Next Cut reteams the producers from the first two films, Robert Teitel, George L. Tillman and Ice Cube. Malcolm D. Lee, Becki Cross Trujillo, Ronald G. Muhammed and Jeff Kwatinetz are serving as executive producers.
From Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema, Barbershop: The Next Cut will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. Barbershop: The Next Cut opens nationwide on April 15.
