EXCLUSIVE: Abigail Breslin, one of the stars on Fox’s Scream Queens, has been tapped to star in Freak Show, the film adaptation of James St. James’ bestselling cult novel that Trudie Styler is directing in her feature debut.
Freak Show tells the story of Billy Bloom (Alex Lawther), a boldly confident teenager who faces intolerance and persecution at his ultra-conservative high school and decides to fight back on behalf of all of the misunderstood freaks of the world by running for the title of homecoming queen. Breslin will play the head cheerleader and high school queen bee who is incensed by the competition. She joins a cast that already includes Bette Midler, AnnaSophia Robb, Ian Nelson and Lorraine Toussaint.
Styler’s Maven Pictures partner Celine Rattray and Flower Films’ Drew Barrymore, Chris Milly and Ember Truesdell are producing.
Breslin, an Oscar nominee for 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine, also just published a book, This May Sound Crazy. She was repped in the deal by CAA and manager Beth Cannon.
