The Leeches, a half-hour ensemble comedy from The Descendants co-writers Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, has been set up at NBC nbclogo__130422182418-150x150with a script commitment plus penalty. Written by the duo, the project centers on Jess, a young woman who, in an act of desperation to separate herself from her Pittsburgh family and be labeled a “success,” steals her mom’s idea and lands on a home shopping channel with an instant top seller. Caught in the act and her new-found success threatened, Jess is forced to make her nurturing, but no-nonsense mom, Joan, a partner and subsequently go into business with the family she was so desperately trying to escape.

Rash and Faxon executive produce alongside their partner at B Story, Kevin Walsh. Sony Pictures TV, where Rash and Faxon’s B Story production banner is under an overall deal, is the studio. The company recently promoted Ryan Stowell to VP Production. He will help oversee development on The Leeches and other TV and feature projects.

Rash and Faxon, who met while at The Groundlings, shared with Alexander Payne the 2012 best adapted screenplay Oscar for The Descendants. Additionally, Rash and Faxon wrote and directed the Sundance feature The Way Way Back that starred Steve Carell. Their latest film project, The Birches, is set up at Fox Searchlight with Payne attached to produce. As actors, Faxon recently starred in the FX comedy series Married, while Rash co-starred on Community.
