ABC has put in development a half-hour comedy series that would serve as a sequel to the 1997 feature My Best Friend’s Wedding, starring Julia Roberts. Oscar-winning scribe Ron Bass (Rain Man), who wrote the feature screenplay, will co-write the pilot with Jessica Amento. Bass also will executive produce with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson, Mike Menchel and the film’s producer Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker. Amento will serve as co-producer.

abclogoABC’s My Best Friend’s Wedding will pick up where the movie left off. It centers on Julianne Potter, the character played by Roberts in the movie, as she navigates her life in New York City, with best friend George, originally played byRupert Everett, as her guide.

Wedding is just the latest in a series of reboots this season. The network also is developing a remade Fantasy Island with a female Mr. Rourke, and Hart To Hart is getting a remake at NBC. CBS recently put in development a new McGyver as well as  Moreau, a drama inspired by H.G. Wells’ classic sci-fi novel The Island Of Dr. Moreau, in which the title character also has been changed from a man to a woman, Other TV series getting reboots this season include A-Team and Xena. Movie-wise, getting TV series versions are Training Day at CBS, Behind Enemy Lines at Fox, In The Live of Fire at NBC and The Notebook at the CW.
