ABC Family, ABC Studios and its cable/digital division ABC Signature have signed an overall deal with McG and his Wonderland Sound & Vision. Under the two-year pact, he will direct and develop drama and comedy series and produce digital content for various platforms.
The joint network-studio deal follows two recent collaborations between McG and ABC Family, soon to be renamed as Freeform. He executive produces the network’s upcoming Mortal Instruments drama series Shadowhunters and directed the opening episode of the straight-to-series project. Additionally, he executive produces ABC Family’s comedy series Kevin From Work whose pilot he also directed.
“Everything McG touches gets bigger and better. I’m thrilled that Shadowhunters will showcase his brilliant work as a director when it premieres in January” said Karey Burke, EVP Programming and Development at ABC Family. “McG will be ushering in new ideas and projects to live under our new Freeform banner.”
McG executive produces four series currently on the air: Shadowhuners and Kevin From Work — both of which he exec produces alongside Wonderland president Mary Viola — as well as the CW veteran Supernatural and NBC sophomore The Mysteries Of Laura. His previous series credits include The O.C., Chuck and Nikita.
“I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely with the entire Disney family, especially Karey Burke and (ABCF president) Tom Ascheim in the launch of Freeform,” said McG.
This marks the first TV studio agreement for Wonderland Sound & Vision since the it left longtime home Warner Bros. TV in 2013 for a stint as an independent company backed by private equity funds.
McG is repped by WME and Management 360.
