After co-starring in Blumhouse’s horror movie Visions, Eva Longoria has re-teamed with Jason Blum to executive produce together a genre-themed drama project, which has been set up at NBC. Zone Of Silence, which also is executive produced by actor Eric Winter (The Mentalist), is based on a phenomenon/urban myth in the Mapimí desert area of Mexico where radio signals supposedly don’t travel, making for a total communications blackout.
Zone Of Silence, written by Rashad Raisani (NBC’s Allegiance), focuses on the area acting like a domestic Bermuda Triangle, an invisible interference which appears in the southwest and not only wreaks havoc on communications but is central to key myths, folklore and legends. When a group of ICE agents go missing under odd circumstances within the “zone”, a task force is formed to find them. Science clashes with the unexplained on a weekly basis while the larger search to explain the disappearance continues.
The project hails from Universal TV, where Longoria and Ben Spector’s UnveliEVAble Entertainment is under an overall deal and Blum’s Blumhouse has a deal as part of the company’s broader agreement with NBCUniversal. Zone Of Silence also stems from Raisani’s overall deal at Uni TV that came out of his stint as an executive producer on NBC/Uni TV’s drama Allegiance. He previously worked on Burn Notice and White Collar.
Raisani, Longoria, Spector, Blum and Blumhouse’s Jessica Rhoades executive produce alongside Winter, who have had long-time interest in the “zone of silence” phenomenon. There are no plans for him to act in the project.
Blumhouse is coming off winning an Emmy for HBO’s The Jinx after also earning a trophy for HBO’s The Normal Heart last year.
UnbeliEVAble has midseason NBC comedy series Hot & Bothered, starring Longoria, as well as two other broadcast projects in development, Bonita & Mechelle at NBC with Will Packer Prods. and a comedy at ABC with veteran comedy writer Bobby Bowman. The company is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment. Raisani is repped by UTA and the Shuman Co.
