Personal Motives is an adaptation of the 2005 Spanish series Motivos Personales, created by Carlos Vila and Javier Holgado and produced by Boomerang TV, the creators and production company behind the Spanish series Los Misterios de Laura, which was successfully adapted in the U.S. as NBC/WBTV’s The Mysteries Of Laura.
Written/executive produce by Andy Stern, Personal Motives centers on a high profile news anchor who has the unfortunate experience of seeing her husband arrested for murder live on-air during the evening newscast. Their lives are, of course, torn apart as she works desperately to try to prove his innocence.
Calamity Jane’s Pompeo, star of ABC/ABCS’ medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, and Laura Holstein also executive produce alongside New Media Vision’s CEO Todd Lituchy.
This is the second collaboration between Stern and Calamity Jane after he wrote a cop drama last season that also was set up at ABC.
Motivos Personales, which aired on Telecinco Spain for two seasons in 2005, swept Spain’s Eñe TV Awards that year with 9 wins, including best series, writing, directing, actress and cast.
The deal for the format was brokered by Paradigm, which also repped the Misterios de Laura format. Pompeo is with WME. Stern is repped by Principato-Young Entertainment and ICM.
