Alfred Molina (Chocolat), Dylan Baker (The Good Wife, Spider-Man 2 & 3), Al Madrigal (About A Boy, The Daily Show), Jon Daly (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, Kroll Show), Robert Forster (Jackie Brown), and Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull) are set as guest stars for Showtime’s dark comedy pilot I’m Dying Up Here. Molina, Baker, Madrigal and Daly will recur if the pilot goes to series.
Written and executive produced by Dave Flebotte and executive produced by Jim Carrey, I’m Dying Up Here is set in L.A.’s infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s and delves into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the complex business of making an audience laugh. The pilot, from Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment, is based on the non-fiction novel by William Knoedelseder.
Molina plays Carl,a marginal at best talent manager, dated in dress and relevance, who despite his high opinion of himself is not very successful. Adam’s (RJ Cyler) manager, for better or for worse. Baker plays Johnny Carson. Madrigal is Edgar Martinez, a loose cannon comedian who lives in his own world, loves to party, doesn’t take it all too seriously. Daly is Arnie, a struggling comic who does a little of everything at the club. Goldie’s devoted second in command. Forster plays Guy Appuzo, Clay’s (Sebastian Stan) dad. The father of one of the more successful comics at the club. Old school in his thinking, unimpressed by the chaotic comedy world. Moriarty is Angie Appuzo Clay’s mom. Religious, but more open-minded than her husband. Deeply loving of her son.
They join previously announced ensemble cast which includes Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Clark Duke , Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino.
