Graceland star Aaron Tveit is set as a male lead opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead in BrainDead, CBS’ upcoming summer series from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King.

The comic-thriller, from CBS TV Studios, centers on Laurel (Winstead), a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer whose first job in Washington, D.C. leads her to discover two things: The government has stopped working, and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers. Tveit will play Gareth, a Republican operative whose wit is only trumped by his pragmatism. The Legislative Director to a top Republican senator, Gareth is smart, hardworking, and ultimately responsible for helping to save the world.

“We’re thrilled that Aaron will be joining BrainDead,” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “We’re huge fans of his work — he’s spectacular on stage and screen — and think he’ll be a fantastic opponent-slash-love-interest for Mary Elizabeth Winstead.”

Gossip Girl alum Tveit, repped by CAA and Elin Flack Management, is coming off a starring role on USA drama series Graceland. He was recently tapped to play Danny Zuko in Fox’s Grease: Live special. His feature credits include Les Miserables and Premium Rush; on Broadway he originated the roles of Gabe in Next To Normal and Frank Abagnale Jr. in the stage version of Catch Me If You Can.
