As we await this week’s fifth annual Streamy Awards, the first batch of winners was released tonight. Among those taking home the hardware this year are James Van Der Beek, Best Actor for Adi Shankar’s Bootleg Universe; Avengers, X-Men and Transformers scribe Zak Penn, Best Documentary or Investigative for his docu Atari: Game Over, about the infamous E.T. game that basically killed the once-go-go company; “Weird Al” Yankovic, Best Cover Song for “Foil,” his takedown of Lorde’s megahit “Royals”; and NBC’s The Tonight Show, Best Spinoff for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Backstage.

Video Game high School logoThe annual awards presented by dick clark productions and Tubefilter honor the year’s best online videos in categories including acting, directing, writing and producing. Epic Rap Battles Of History was the night’s big winner, topping the field with three awards to match last year’s league-leading haul watch “Romeo And Juliet Vs. Bonnie And Clyde” below). Video Game High School scored a pair of Streamys for Best Ensemble and Best Directing (Matt Arnold and Freddie Wong).

Tonight’s “pre-live stream” awards were handed out at YouTube Space LA in Playa Vista ahead of the Big Show on Thursday at the Hollywood Palladium, when trophies will be handed out in nine additional categories: Beauty, Comedy, First Person, Kids and Family, Lifestyle, Pranks and Viner as well as Audience Choice for Entertainer of the Year and Show of the Year. That ceremony will air on VH1 live at 10 PM in the East — delayed in that slot in the West. Your hosts are Grace Helbig, back for a second year, and Tyler Oakley, who last year was among the Streamy Awards’ first group of the Icon Award recipients.

Meanwhile, here is this year’s initial group of winners:
