The Solution Entertainment Group has hired Josie Liang as VP Acquisitions and Development. She joins immediately after most recently working as a acquisitions and sales exec at Focus Features, where the titles she worked on included the Blumhouse horror pics Insidious: Chapter 3 and Sinister 2 for the Gramercy genre label. At The Solution will focus on development of commercial feature films to produce and finance in-house along with the acquisition of third-party titles for international sales.

“Josie is admired and well-respected in the industry with a keen understanding of projects that have wide, commercial appeal for a theatrical audience, said Solution co-founders Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel. “Her studio experience and established ties to cast and filmmakers make her a perfect addition to our expanding team.”

Before Focus, Liang was manager of acquisitions at FilmDistrict and also worked at GK Films and Sony Pictures.

The Solution, founded in 2012, is an international sales and financing outfit that offers development funding, production funding, production and post-production services as well as international distribution. Its current slate includes the Venice/Toronto pic Man Down starring Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman and Kate Mara; Open Road’s Bleed For This with Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart; and Oppenheimer Strategies staring Richard Gere, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Michael Sheen. It recently wrapped production on The Runaround with JK Simmons and Emile Hirsch and is in preproduction on the real-time action pic Live! also starring Eckhart.
