Another Ghostbusters original is crossing streams and joining the reboot. Director Paul Feig informed the Twitterverse this morning that Sigourney Weaver, who played Dana Barrett aka the Gatekeeper in the 1984 flick and its 1989 sequel, is joining Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and the new professional paranormal investigators:
No word on Weaver’s character in the new pic, but let’s hope it involves some 21st century levitation.
Feig has been using the 140-character PR machine to scare up interest in his new take on the paranormal classic, which stars Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon as the quashers of telekinetic activity in NYC. In the summer, he tweeted a first pic of the new Ecto-1, modernizing it from 1959 Cadillac ambulance to mid-’80s hearse. A few days later, the filmmaker sent out the first pic of the new Ghostbusters.

Chris Hemsworth and Neil Casey also star in the reboot, which Sony opens July 15.

Ummm I assume she will be reprising her role from the original 2…
So glad this film stands on its own two feet.
Haha, exactly.
All the cameos just smack of a lack of confidence.
This is an actress that I’d like to see more in movies, especially in leading roles. She’s great in drama but she’s beyond brilliant in comedies. She should have her own show or just resurrect Political Animals. I need to see Siggy on weekly basis.
Putting too much effort into cameos generally points to a vain attempt to direct attention away from an awful product……
Interesting factoid: her father invented the late-night talk show format!
And also “The Today Show.” Sylvester “Pat” Weaver was his name, and his brother (her uncle) was famed comedian Doodles Weaver.
