Marvel’s Agent Carter executive producers/showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have sold their first project under the pod deal the duo inked at ABC Studios this year. The Death Of Eva Sofia Valdez, which has landed at ABC, was written by Cuban-American playwright Charise Castro Smith. It is a sexy revenge drama with a supernatural twist about a Cuban-American family on the rise as they navigate multiple business ventures in Miami, familial rivalries and dark secrets from the past that come back to haunt them.
Fazekas and Butter executive produce, with Castro Smith co-executive producing. Overseeing the project for the Fazekas & Butters production banner is Robert Atwood, who joined the company in May as VP Television Development.
Castro Smith most recently was a staff writer on Devious Maids. Her play Feathers & Teeth opened Friday at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago.
Atwood started his career in casting on Will & Grace and The New Adventures Of Old Christine before transitioning to talent management and then joining Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ ABC Studios-based production arm. While there, Atwood brought in the book The Returned via Plan B Entertainment. It became the ABC series Resurrection, on which Fazekas and Butters served as executive producers/showrunners, meeting Atwood. This marks Atwood’s return to ABC Studios after a recent stint at TV Land as Director of Development and Talent, where he helped develop the network’s new slate of single-camera comedies.
Fazekas and Butters are repped by ICM Partners and Gendler & Kelly. Castro Smith is repped by ICM Partners.
